Ukrainian Rug
Françoise´s mother is from the Ukraine, but she grew up in East Africa. I’m not lucky because I will not see the Ukrainian handcraft exhibition at the recently opened Ukrainian Museum. Unfortunately, it’s scheduled to open in the fall. Because of the move, the library is still not open and the some 80 rugs from the Museum’s collection are being stored in another place.
The woman who works at the museum explains to me the difference between the floral rug designs from the eastern part of the country and the geometrical ones from the western part. In the Ukrainian store on East 7th Street there are simpler and newer goods. We take a picture.
